The best stores are easy to draw from memory.

The post

The best stores are easy to draw from memory.

In 1960 Kevin Lynch asked people in Boston, Jersey City and Los Angeles to sketch their city. Their maps came down to five things: paths, edges, districts, nodes, landmarks.

Last year a study had 68 people sketch a virtual mall. The ones who put the shops on the right floor or corridor had also found them more efficiently.

None of that costs more to build. It has to be decided before the fixtures go in.
